The young girls of Honduras are so beautiful, strong and intelligent. Many are bursting with passions and dreams, however they often don't have the opportunities and the resources that they need to thrive. This girls' home will change the lives of so many young girls in ways that you can't even begin to imagine--it will first and foremost provide a safe place to live in one of the most dangerous countries in the western hemisphere. Villa Soleada is a village that was built by Students Helping Honduras to house families that were living in one of the biggest and poorest shantytowns in Honduras. They were constantly facing flooding and gang violence, and SHH successfully removed them from the danger and built them their own community, named appropriately by the residents as "Sunshine Village." This is where the girls' home is located. Below is an example of a broken down home that many Honduran families reside in, and then a photo of one of the Villa Soleada homes built by SHH.
I haven't been to Honduras recently (as much as I would have liked to) to help build, but I've been so anxious and eager for it to open. Last year I raised $1,500 for SHH and have been participating in a fundraising campaign through SHH called "One Cup of Coffee" which you can donate $4 a month--the amount you would spend on one cup of coffee. I encourage everyone to look into doing the same. You really won't notice the money is gone, and the projects they're using it for are just incredible. You can find the sign up form here: http://www.ceciskids.org/one-cup-coffee
I'm sending so many prayers and so much love to Villa Soleada. I've been so anxious and eager for the girls' home to open! It truly is the best birthday present ever. Below are some photos of the stunning young faces of the Villa Soleada girls.
